Exam preparation doesn't have to mean last-minute cramming or expensive revision courses. A simple, consistent plan — built four to six weeks before the exam — is usually enough to make a real difference.
Week 1-2: Diagnose the Gaps
Before revising everything, find out what actually needs work. Have your child attempt a past paper or practice test under normal conditions (no notes, timed). Review it together and list the topics that caused the most mistakes — that list becomes the revision priority, not the whole syllabus.
Week 3-4: Focused Topic Revision
Work through the priority list, one topic at a time, using short 25-30 minute focused sessions rather than long unfocused ones. After each topic, have your child explain it back in their own words — if they can teach it, they understand it.
Week 5: Timed Practice
Once the weak topics are stronger, switch to full timed practice papers. This builds exam-condition stamina and highlights any remaining gaps in pacing or time management, not just knowledge.
Final Week: Light Review, Not Cramming
In the last week, avoid introducing new material. Focus on reviewing notes, redoing a handful of tricky questions from earlier practice, and making sure your child is well rested going into the exam.
A Simple Weekly Checklist
- 3-4 focused revision sessions per week (25-30 minutes each)
- One practice question set reviewed together
- One "explain it back to me" check per topic
- Consistent sleep schedule, especially in the final week
If your child is preparing for exams and needs structured, guided support rather than going it alone, our Intensive plan is built specifically around exam-focused revision and practice with a dedicated teacher.
